MANILA - The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority on Wednesday said it is set to crack down on UV Express vehicles that have provincial routes.

"Yung UV Express po ika-cut din natin ang line. Kung 'yan ay galing ng probinsiya, hindi rin pwedeng dumaan diyan sa Metro Manila. Bigyan natin ng fair na laban dahil ang UV Express ang kalaban ay mga bus," MMDA General Manager Jojo Garciatold radio DZMM.

The Metro Manila Council earlier approved a resolution prohibiting the issuance of business permits to all public utility bus terminals and operators and other public utility vehicles along EDSA. The MMDA is looking at June as the target date for the terminal closure.

Garcia said the closure includes not only the 47 terminals along EDSA, but the entire 96 terminals in Metro Manila. When combined, the land area that these terminals occupy is just 1.6 hectares compared to the almost 10-has of the interim terminals in Valenzuela City for the north, and in Sta. Rosa, Laguna for south.

"Ibig sabihin na 'yung paglilipatan nila na more than 10-has I think it's more than enough sa space kaya nagkakabuhol-buhol tayo dahil napakaliit ng mga provincial bus terminals dito sa Metro Manila," he said.
