Former presidential political adviser Francis Tolentino denied on Sunday that he is a political butterfly.

Asked during the "Harapan 2019: The ABS-CBN Senatorial Town Hall Debate," whether he considered himself to be a "balimbing" (turncoat), Tolentino said he was an independent candidate during his first Senate bid.

"Nung tumakbo po ako dati independent po ako. Kahit tingnan niyo po independent po ako," Tolentino said.

(When I ran for senator before I was an independent candidate. You can check my records that I was an independent candidate.)

Tolentino served as Metro Manila Development Authority under former President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III. He was tipped for a slot in the 2013 administration Senate ticket until a sexy dance during a Liberal Party rally courted controversy.

Tolentino proceeded with his 2016 senatorial candidacy but eventually lost to 12th placer Leila de Lima.

For this year's midterm elections, Tolentino is running under the ruling PDP-Laban party and enjoys the endorsement of President Rodrigo Duterte.
