MANILA - Business process outsourcing (BPO) companies have little to worry from U.S. President Donald Trump's protectionist bent, according to a business analyst.

Gus Cosio, president of First Metro Asset Management said it is unlikely for large U.S. companies with long term investments in the Philippines such as BPOs, to pull out of the country simply because a U.S. president with a four-year term wants to bring back jobs to United States.

Cosio also said Trump seems to be more concerned about bringing back manufacturing jobs to the U.S. instead of service jobs, like those in BPOs.

He also downplayed the effects of geopolitical risks, such as the tension in the Korean peninsula, on local investors. Cosio said he is optimistic that there will be "more prudent" and "more cerebral" actions to defuse tension.

"At the end of the day, what I really look at is earnings," Cosio added.
