In what many believe was a preview of the finals, the Ateneo Blue Eagles faced the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons in the last elimination-round game of UAAP Season 82 men's basketball Wednesday.

What was a competitive game in the first 10 minutes or so turned into a basketball clinic by the defending champions, who asserted their championship-caliber play in an 86-64 win to complete a 14-game sweep of the preliminaries and extend their overall winning streak to 24 games since last season.

The last time a team went unbeaten at the same stage of the tournament was when University of the East ran the table en route to the same record, before the Red Warriors lost to La Salle in the title series.

The win against UP assured Ateneo of a trip to the finals while the No. 2 Fighting Maroons take their twice-to-beat bonus against the winner of the Far Eastern University-University of Santo Tomas knockout game.
