MANILA, Philippines—A promising start went down the drain, as the Philippines women's volleyball team lost to Indonesia 22-25, 28-26, 25-22, 25-14 to end the preliminary round of the Southeast Asian Games at PhilSports Arena on Saturday.

Alyssa Valdez and co., who have lost all of their 3 matches, face Indonesia (1-2) again on Monday for the bronze.

Thailand topped the preliminaries with a 3-0 record, followed by Vietnam 2-1.

Middle blocker Majoy Baron and setter Jia Morado, who carried the hosts' offense throughout the match, keyed a run that gave the Philippines a decisive 24-21 lead in the first set.

Tweaking the lineup, the Philippines carried momentum into the second frame and took a 19-15 lead. Faulty passing and attacking, however, haunted the Filipinas from there, allowing Indonesia to slowly gain the lead 24-23 and capping a deuce with consecutive transition kills.

Ahead 20-17 in the third set, the Philippines surrendered five straight points, mostly coming off its own errors. Eya Laure kept her team close, but Indonesia's offense snuffed out the hosts' last-ditch run.

The fourth set was decided early, with Indonesia racing to a 20-9 advantage and never looking back.

Megawati Hangestri Pertiwi led Indonesia with 19 points, and Ratri Wulandari added 18. The Indonesians had 58 kills to 50 by the Philippines, and scored 11 points off their serve.

Mylene Paat led the Filipinas with 14 points, while Ces Molina had 13. Majoy Baron put up 12 markers as Alyssa Valdez was limited to just 2 points in the loss.
