MANILA--Rubilen Amit and Chezka Centeno will figure in a rematch for the women's 9-ball gold medal in the 30th Southeast Asian Games.
This, after they advanced past the semifinals on Saturday at the Manila Hotel Tent, results that assured the Philippines of another 1-2 finish.
Centeno, the reigning Games champion, was barely challenged in a 7-1 triumph over Singapore’s Jessica Tan.
Amit followed shortly after, taking down Thailand's Vutthiphan Kongkaket, 7-2, in their own semifinals pairing.
An all-Filipina final has been on the mind of the veteran Amit from the start.
"Tina-try kong burahin sa isip ko na ganoon, kasi gusto ko mag-focus," said Amit on Friday after qualifying to the semis. "Sinasabi ko, focus on the process, focus on the process, para doon lang ako sa present moment."
In the 2017 SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur, Centeno pounced on a late error by Amit to win the gold, 7-6. It was her second straight gold in women's 9-ball, and for Amit a second straight silver.
Amit and Centeno will contest the 10-ball gold later Saturday afternoon, and the 9-ball gold Sunday afternoon.
