MANILA, Philippines—The Philippines men's and women's fencing teams settled for bronze medals in the sabre and foil events, respectively, after bowing to Vietnam at World Trade Center on Friday afternoon.

The women's side squandered an early lead and lost 45-36.

Maxine Esteban and Sam Catantan created a cushion but Vietnam's Nguyen Thu Puong caught up against Wilhelmina Lozada. They fell behind further in the sixth single, with Nguyen overpowering Catantan.

Justine Tinio and Esteban helped them catch up, but Do Thi Anh sealed the win against Catantan in the 9th single.

The men's team, meanwhile, lost to Vietnam, 45-38, in the team sabre event.

Christian Concepcion, Donnie Navarro, Eric Brando II, and Daniel Villanueva also settled for bronze.

They add their medals to the one gold, two silver, and three bronze medals won by the fencing team during the individual events earlier in the week.
