MANILA, Philippines--Chezka Centeno and Rubilen Amit are both through to the semifinals in women's 9-ball in the 30th Southeast Asian Games.

The Filipina players advanced after downing their respective Indonesian opponents at the Manila Hotel Tent on Friday afternoon.

Centeno, the defending champion, was mostly unbothered en route to a 7-0 shutout of Angeline Ticoalu. An uncharacteristic miss of the 9-ball in the fourth rack was Centeno's only hiccup, but she was bailed out when Ticoalu flubbed her shot as well.

"'Yung sa 9, sablay po ako," Centeno, 20, said. "Swerte lang ako, dami niya ring sablay po."

Meanwhile, Amit endured some nervous moments before fending off Fathrah Masum, 7-3. Amit raced out to a 5-1 lead before the Indonesian threatened.

"Mas mahirap na kung dumikit siya. May tira din 'yung kalaban, and she was really taking her time," said Amit of her foe. "Sabi ko, gusto ko na tapusin kasi baka tumagal pa, lalo na may laban pa ng 7 (p.m.)."

Both Amit and Centeno will play in the semifinals of the 10-ball singles tonight.

They remain on track for a showdown in the finals once again, much like in Kuala Lumpur two years ago when Amit settled for silver while Centeno took the gold in a 1-2 finish for the Philippines.

Centeno plays Singapore's Jessica Tan in the semifinals, while Amit plays Thailand's Vutthiphan Kongkaket.
