MANILA - For the second year in a row, the FEU Cheering Squad settled for a silver finish in the UAAP cheerdance competition, as National University Pep Squad again emerged as champions.
However, unlike last year, the FEU crew gave the crowd a performance to remember with their gravity-defying moves performed to the beat of Michael Jackson's music.
NU garnered 722 points over FEU's 706 points. This was closer compared to last year's 711-655.5 head-to-head scores.
Head coach of FEU Randell San Gregorio welcomed the result but was quick to express his disappointment to particular category in the tally sheet.
San Gregorio said he expected a higher score for his team in the dance category. The Morayta-based group placed second in that division with 362 points behind the NU Pep with 369.5 points.
"I was actually expecting a different score. Di naman ako judge, so okay pa rin," San Gregorio told reporters.
FEU wowed the audience with iconic Jackson moves including the moonwalk, as well as "Thriller" steps and costumes.
San Gregorio said he noticed how they received the loudest cheer among all the performances.
"Judging from the crowd’s reaction, sa routine namin, we’ve done our job. We’ve done a good job. Feeling ko naman, the crowd cheered the loudest during our performance, okay na ako dun," San Gregorio stated.
However, he clarified that he was not questioning the win of NU, but felt FEU deserved to lead the dance category.
