MANILA – Doug Kramer on Friday explained his decision to retire from professional basketball, saying he was hanging his jersey out of respect for the sport and not due to injury.
In a Facebook post of Team Kramer on Friday, the cager said he was leaving to give chance to other players to take his slot.
"Basketball is not forever. And I never made it to become my only avenue. It's very temporal. I'm 36 years young and still so much to do," he said.
"I don't want to wait till my body is breaking down, or till mentally I'm drained of the daily routine of training. I'm moving on because I choose to do so," he said.
Kramer said basketball changed his life, including leading him to meet his wife, actress Chesca Kramer, with whom he has 3 children: endra, Scarlett and Gavin.
If he was not a basketball player, Kramer said he would be serving in the military.
