MANILA, Philippines -- University of Santo Tomas became the second team to secure a semis spot in UAAP Season 82 women's basketball, after the Growling Tigresses dominant 71-49 triumph over La Salle on Wednesday at the Quadricentennial Pavilion.
The win improved UST's record to 10-3, just behind unbeaten National University (12-0).
UST leaned on twin towers Grace Irebu and Tantoy Ferrer, who finished with 13 and 12 points, respectively. Reigning MVP Irebu grabbed 16 rebounds while sophomore Ferrer added 7.
Leading by 10 points at the half, the Tigresses allowed just four points in the third quarter to turn the game into a rout.
Ferrer put on the finishing touches in the game as UST led by as many as 32 points in the contest.
It was a tough loss for the Lady Archers as they fell to 6-6, half-a-game behind fourth-running Far Eastern University.
Maureen Okoli was the lone La Salle player in double digits in points with 11, along with eight rebounds.
Promising rookie Kent Pastrana was limited to just 15 minutes in the game. She only had six points on four attempts.
