UAAP 82: UST girls, boys still leading after Day 2 of swimming competition

University of Santo Tomas began pulling away in the girls competition in Day 2 of UAAP Season 82 juniors swimming, while its boys team took the lead from La Salle-Zobel at Trace Aquatic Center in Los Baños, Laguna, on Friday.

While UST (182.50 points) is locked in a close battle with La Salle (172.50 points) in the boys' division, its girls team (193 points) now enjoys a 49-point advantage over University of the Philippines.

Rounding out the top three after the second day of competition are the Zobel girls with 118 points and the Ateneo boys (104 points).

UST's CJ Arceo won the team's first gold in the 50-m breaststroke, a medal he shared with DLSZ's Aki Lorbes after they both timed at 31.05 seconds. Rookie Jules Mirandilla added another gold for UST as he topped the 100-m butterfly.

The Junior Tiger Sharks finished the day after both their 400-m freestyle relay teams took the gold in league-record fashion. 

Mikhail Cruz, Merell Neri, Luis Reyes, and Reagan Garbanzos took the boys title, while Honey Escarez, Jade Guevarra, Alexandra Bonite, and Kyla Managuelod topped the girls field.

Reigning boys MVP Wacky Santos of Ateneo continued his own individual dominance, taking his third and fourth gold medals in 400-m freestyle and 200-m backstroke, respectively.

UP's Zoe Hilario bagged her second gold of the season after winning the 200-m backstroke, while DLSZ's Bela Magtibay edged out Hilario for the 50-m breaststroke mint.
