World junior bantamweight champion Jerwin Ancajas arrived in the United States on Friday for the final phase of his training ahead of his eighth title defense against Jonathan Rodriguez of Mexico.

Ancajas squares off with Rodriguez on Nov. 2 (Nov. 3, Manila time) in Carson City, Calif.

The Panabo town, Davao del Norte, fighter trained in seclusion for 3 months at the Philippine Navy base in San Antonio town, Zambales, before heading to the US.

At this stage of his preparations, coach Joven Jimenez said perfecting Ancajas' technique while taking care of the champion's weight will be the priority.

Ancajas should make the 115-pound limit on the eve of the fight with the help of nutrition expert Jeaneth Aro.

"Focus na lang sa gagawin namin sa laban," said Jimenez. "Binabantayan na lang din namin ang timbang ni Jerwin."

The coach said Ancajas will still undergo light sparring to make sure he executes their game plan well.
"Mayron pa rin sparring pero light na lang," said the coach.
