Reigning 3-time champion Ateneo flexed its muscle in Day 1 of UAAP Season 82 women’s swimming at Trace Aquatic Center in Los Baños Thursday.

Chloe Daos, last year’s Most Valuable Player, led the Lady Eagles with golds in the two freestyle events for the day, 100-meters and 800-meters. Ateneo also bagged the two relay mints to amass 101 points on the day.

Meanwhile in the men's division, La Salle leaned on the masterful performance of Southeast Asian Games–bound Sacho Ilustre to grab top spot after Day 1.

Daos bested rookies Erin Castrillo of University of the Philippines and Nicole Pamintuan of La Salle for the 100-meter title at 59.54 seconds.

The third-year Atenean also bagged gold in the 800 meters ahead of Nichole Evangelista of La Salle and teammate Reagan Gavino.

The Lady Eagles ended the Lady Maroons’ dominance in 200-meter medley relay as Courtney Gray, Dara Carreon, Kristine Santos, and Marjorie Manguiat edged UP with a time of 2 minutes, 8.15 seconds.

Ateneo extended its winning run in the 800-meter freestyle relay with Suzanne Himor, Gavino, Gray, and Portia Doragos grabbing gold (9:17.41). The Lady Maroons also got the silver.

In the men's side, Ilustre, the previous season’s top rookie, made case for this season’s Most Valuable Player plum after bagging the golds in both the 100 and 800-meter freestyle events, to put the title favorites up at 77 points.

Ilustre topped Miguel Barlisan of Ateneo and Christian Anor of University of Santo Tomas in the 100 meters with a time of 52.07 seconds, just 0.01 seconds ahead of Barlisan.
