UAAP 82: NU, UST share early lead in women’s taekwondo

MANILA, Philippines—University of Santo Tomas and three-time defending champion National University dominated their opponents on Tuesday at the Blue Eagle Gym to share the lead after Day 1 of UAAP Season 82 women's taekwondo.

The Lady Bulldogs made quick work of University of the East and Ateneo, emerging undefeated in the 14 individual matches for a 2-0 record.

Leading the charge for NU was team captain Irish Razon, who carved contrasting wins for her team. She beat Winslet Rosel of Ateneo 18-16, before blanking UE's Donna Duque 11-0.

After reigning featherweight gold medalist Beatrice Gaerlan of University of the Philippines averted a shutout, Realis Tabiando sent UST to the overall victory in the lightweight class. UST won 6-1.

Earlier, the Lady Tiger Jins also topped Ateneo 7-0 to end the day also with a perfect 2-0 record.

UP and La Salle also posted wins for identical 1-1 records and a tie for third and fourth places.

The Lady Maroons dominated the Lady Green Jins, 5-2, before the latter bounced back with a 6-1 romp of UE.

The other match saw Far Eastern University beating UE, 5-2.
