PBA: Meralco overpowers Phoenix for 2nd straight win

MANILA - The Meralco Bolts claimed their second win in a row after overpowering the Phoenix Pulse Fuel Masters, 111-94, in the 2019 PBA Governors' Cup on Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum.

Chris Newsome put up a triple-double of 13 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists while committing just one turnover in nearly 38 minutes of action, while Allen Durham had a double-double of 27 points and 12 rebounds.

Baser Amer scored 26 points in the win, which gave the Bolts a 3-1 win-loss record.

The Fuel Masters played without head coach Louie Alas for the entirety of the second half, after he was tossed up with 7:30 left in the second quarter for incurring two straight technical fouls.

Meralco shot 48 percent from the field, and led by as much as 27 points, 88-61, with 10:37 to go in the fourth quarter off a Nard Pinto three-pointer.

Eugene Phelps led Phoenix with 31 points, but only RJ Jazul (11) and RR Garcia (10) were in double-digits for the Fuel Masters. 
Phoenix dropped to 1-4 in the conference.
