MANILA, Philippines -- Choco Mucho drew strength from another superb game from Kat Tolentino for a come-from-behind win over PacificTown Army in the 2019 Premier Volleyball League Open Conference on Sunday at FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Flying Titans' 25-20, 17-25, 21-25, 25-11, 15-8 win fanned their bid for a semifinal spot, after Tolentino exploding for 24 points built on 22 attacks.
It was Choco Mucho's third win in a row, improving its record to 5-6.
Maddie Madayag provided the much-needed support with 14 hits.
The Lady Troopers were in position to claim the win after getting the third set and a 2-1 sets advantage and move in a two-way tie for No. 4 with Motolite (7-4).
Instead, PacificTown Army lost steam in the last two frames and fell to 6-5.
In the second game, Alyssa Valdez returned from a brief absence due to a sprained ankle to help Creamline overpower Air Force, 25-15, 25-16, 25-18.
It was the Cool Smashers' 11th win in a row, giving them the first berth in the semis. The Lady Jet Spikers fell to 5-6.
In the Collegiate Conference, Ateneo and College of Saint Benilde turned back their respective foes to move one step closer to arranging an interesting title showdown.
Faith Nisperos spewed 19 points as the Lady Eagles survived Eya Laure and the University of Santo Tomas Tigresses, 25-15, 26-28, 25-16, 25-18.
The Lady Blazers, for their part, went to Klarissa Abriam, who unloaded 27 points in a 26-24, 29-27, 17-25, 21-25, 15-13 triumph over Group A top seed Adamson.
Both Ateneo and Saint Benilde will go for the jugular in Game Two Wednesday.
