MANILA, Philippines -- Defending champion National University (NU) Pep Squad will perform last in the 2019 edition of the UAAP Cheerdance Competition, after the drawing of lots was held on Wednesday afternoon at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The NU Pep Squad is going for its second straight title and sixth in the last seven seasons.
Head coach Gheeka Bernabe opted to choose first among all coaches, and grinned widely as she selected the pingpong ball bearing the No. 8.
"Everyone's expecting na magi-stick kami with the Disney concept," said Bernabe, whose squad dominated the Cheerdance Competition last year after being dethroned in 2017.
"But right now, siguro bibigyan namin ng more exciting performance. It's very far from the previous years," she said. "So ngayon, it's a tribute to all the Filipinos."
Performing first is the De La Salle University Animo Squad, followed by the University of the East Pep Squad. The University of the Philippines Pep Squad will perform third, followed by the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Babble Battalion.
The Far Eastern University Cheering Squad, last year's runners-up, will perform fifth, followed by the Adamson University Pep Squad, which ended up in third place last year.
Traditional powerhouse University of Santo Tomas Salinggawi Dance Troupe will take the floor seventh, followed by the NU Pep Squad.
The UAAP Cheerdance Competition will be held on November 17 at the MOA Arena.
