MANILA, Philippines -- University of Santo Tomas (UST) head coach Aldin Ayo appeared to take a shot at the referees after the Growling Tigers absorbed a tough loss to Adamson University in the UAAP Season 82 tournament on Wednesday afternoon.
The Tigers had been in control, 71-62, with just over three minutes left but gave up a stunning 16-0 run to the Soaring Falcons, who ran away with the 78-71 victory.
UST's coaching staff was unhappy with how the Adamson run came about, however. They were up in arms over a perceived non-call on Adamson guard Jerom Lastimosa, who prevented Renzo Subido from receiving an inbound pass from Brent Paraiso with over a minute left.
The turnover led to a three-pointer by Adamson's Val Chauca, cutting the lead to one point, 71-70.
Ayo referenced that instance on Twitter after the game, posting a screen capture that showed Lastimosa tightly defending Subido. Included in the tweet was the eyeglasses emoji.
The UST coaches were also aghast after rookie guard Mark Nonoy drove strong to the hoop and was smothered by Adamson's Simon Camacho, but no call was made.
Instead, the Falcons gained control of the possession and Jerrick Ahanmisi had an unimpeded run to the basket for a 74-71 lead.
Ayo did not speak to reporters after the game.
The loss dropped the Growling Tigers to 3-2, putting them in a tie for third and fourth with Adamson.
