TNT to Arwind: He should know better

(UPDATE) TNT reinforcement Terrence Jones on Thursday said he demands that the PBA penalize San Miguel Beer forward Arwind Santos for a racist taunt Santos made during Game 5 of the 2019 PBA Commissioner's Cup finals.

The incident, which was caught on TV and blew up on social media Wednesday night, happened during the first half with Santos making a monkey gesture on the sidelines and directing it at Jones.

In a statement, TNT team manager Gabby Cui said "racism should never have a place in sports and in life. Even via 'jokes and mind games.' "

Cui called the incident "sad", especially because it was a veteran, winning player such as Santos who did it.

"He should know better and look at his own teammates before doing those actions," Cui said.

"It's disrespectful even to them. The PBA should look into this incident closely. It's not what our league is about."

Immediately after the game, Santos said he didn't think he did anything wrong, and that it was all part of the "mind games" he was playing.

Santos said league commissioner Willie Marcial and San Miguel coaches warned him about his action.
