Kiefer Ravena will join Gilas Pilipinas’ training camp in Spain but he will not suit up in any of the national team’s tune-up games against the national teams of Congo, Ivory Coast, and possibly Spain.
Ravena and the team will be doing their due diligence, as the playmaker remains suspended by FIBA, the sport's world governing body.
While he has been allowed to practice since June 24, Ravena’s 18-month ban will only be lifted entirely on August 24, a week before Gilas Pilipinas begins its campaign in the 2019 FIBA World Cup.
So for now, no competitive games for Ravena except for intra-squad scrimmages.
“We’re still cooperating with the sanction. Hindi pa kasi tapos talaga eh. Technically I still can’t play, I can play on the 24th pa,” Ravena said.
“I won’t be able to play sa Spain but I’ll do my best to help the team. I guess I’ll be the no. 1 cheerleader out there, together with the Filipinos who will be watching,” he added.
