MANILA - Naturalized Filipino center Andray Blatche will join the practices of the NLEX Road Warriors starting on Tuesday, national team coach Yeng Guiao announced.
"He'll start everyday practice tomorrow. In the afternoon, he will have a session with the trainer, individual conditioning," Guiao said of Blatche, who arrived in Manila last week as Gilas Pilipinas' preparations for the FIBA World Cup continue to intensify.
"Morning is NLEX practice. Pagka Monday and Thursday, NLEX in the morning, Gilas in the evening. So he's going to practice twice a day starting tomorrow," he added.
Blatche continues to work his way into full fitness, a process that can only be helped when the national team begins to hold daily practices next week.
His participation in NLEX practices should also help familiarize Blatche with the system that Guiao favors.
"Ang expectation namin, magkakaroon na kami ng better chemistry, better conditioning for Andray since kailangan na rin siyang makapag-up and down. Kailangan na rin siyang makapag-offense-defense," said Guiao.
"Ngayon, puro 5-and-0 lang ang ginagawa namin," he added.
Guiao also expects the team to begin working on their defensive schemes next week, when more players become available for the team.
