Rain Or Shine hammered out an 86-84 victory over Alaska at Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday, snapping a 2-game skid in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup
The win came despite Denzel Bowles’ early exit due to an apparent leg injury.
Stepping up in Bowles’ absence were Mark Borboran and Javee Mocon, who carried the fight in the second half.
Borboran had 7 of his 11 points in the payoff period, where the Elasto Painters made a run to claim an 81-73 lead.
Mocon also finished with 11 points, while Rey Nambatac added 10. Despite missing the whole second half, Bowles remained Rain Or Shine’s top scorer with 16 points.
"Nu'ng na-injure si Denzel sabi ng coach namin kelangang 'wag kaming ma-down. Kelangan mag-step up, kailangan maging ready kami" said Borboran, who came into the game in the third quarter.
"So 'yun ang naging motivation namin."
With the win the Elasto Painters now have a 4-5 win-loss card, overtaking the Aces’ 4-6 mark.
Chris Banchero tallied 24 points and 9 assists, and Diamon Simpson registered 22 points and 23 rebounds for the Aces.
