PBA: Dominant debut for Chris Mccullough, as San Miguel downs NLEX

Chris Mccullough scored 23 of his 47 points in a blistering third quarter, as San Miguel Beer downed NLEX 109-105 in the 2019 PBA Commissioner's Cup at Mall of Asia Arena on Friday.

In his league debut, Mccullough helped the Beermen to their third win in 8 games, giving them hope of advancing to the next round.

NLEX fell further down the cellar at 2-8.

The Road Warriors held a 57-56 lead early in the third quarter, before Marcio Lassiter buried 3 consecutive 3-pointers to put San Miguel up 67-57.

Then Mccullough took over, in one stretch scoring 15 points in a row, including 3 triples in a row and a 3-point play, as San Miguel's lead ballooned to 86-63 with 3 minutes left in the third.

Overall, the Beermen outscored NLEX 46-17 in the quarter, Mccullough putting up more points than the entire Road Warriors team combined.

Mccullough finished with 6 3-pointers on 50% shooting from behind the arc to go with 10 rebounds, before he fouled out 2:24 left in the game.

The Road Warriors didn't fold easily though, cutting a 28-point deficit to 109-99 with less than 2 minutes remaining, but they couldn't add on to their comeback efforts.

Christian Standhardinger added 12 points, while Marcio Lassiter chipped in 11 for the Beermen, who made 13-of-29 triples (44%).

Oluseyi Ashaolu led NLEX with 31 points and 15 rebounds.
