MANILA, Philippines – Generika-Ayala powered past Sta. Lucia, 25-12, 25-23, 28-26, to claim its third consecutive victory in the 2019 Philippine Superliga (PSL) All-Filipino Conference on Thursday at the Cadiz City Arena in Cadiz City.
The Lifesavers pounced on the Lady Realtors right from the get go en route to an impressive victory to climb to the second spot along with idle Petron. Both teams own 3-1 win-loss records.
Sta. Lucia put up a fight in the second and third sets, but in each instance, Generika-Ayala finished strong to seal the victory.
"We had a strong start but we struggled in the second and third sets. Good thing was, the girls hung tough and completed those comebacks," said head coach Sherwin Meneses.
"It was good to notch our third straight win. We're already improving so we just hope we could sustain it against Cignal," he added.
The Lifesavers play Cignal in another out-of-town game on Thursday in Silay City.
Fiola Ceballos finished with 10 points on 10 kills, while team captain Angeli Araneta and Patty Orendain chipped in nine and eight points, respectively, for a well-balanced Generika attack.
Libero Kath Arado was also instrumental with 18 excellent digs and five excellent receptions, while Jamie Isabelle Lavitoria set the pace with 15 excellent sets.
After a rousing 25-12 start, Generika-Ayala struggled in the second set, trailing by 19-22 before closing Sta. Lucia out with a massive 6-1 run.
The Lifesavers again trailed, 15-19, before hammering a 28-26 victory to complete a three-set triumph.
MJ Phillips was the lone bright spot with 14 points for struggling Sta. Lucia, which suffered its fourth straight loss in five matches.
