MANILA, Philippines – Cignal continues to impress in the 2019 Philippine Superliga (PSL) All-Filipino Conference, as the HD Spikers swept PLDT Home Fibr, 25-12, 25-21, 25-15, on Thursday at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The quick victory allowed the HD Spikers to rack up their third straight win in the tournament, giving them a share of the lead.
Mylene Paat had 11 kills and 3 blocks, while Rachel Ann Daquis put up 10 attacks and an ace for the HD Spikers, which got the job done in just 80 minutes.
"I'm really pleased to see my players step up. I always tell them to be ready and prove that they are capable of rising up to the occasion," said head coach Edgar Barroga, who drew another sterling performance from Fil-Am setter Alohi Robbins-Hardy.
Robbins-Hardy, who started her PSl career as part of United VC, had 20 excellent sets laced with five kills for Cignal, which dominated the net with 11 blocks.
Barroga said the victory served as a major morale-booster as they march into a colossal match against the Blaze Spikers this Saturday at the Muntinlupa Sports Center.
"Our mettle will surely be tested on Saturday as we go up against Petron," said Barroga. "We will make sure to show up prepared and ready to win against them."
Grethcel Soltones and Aiko Urdas combined for 21 points for PLDT, which fell to fourth spot with a 2-2 win-loss record.
