San Miguel Beer is set to return to action after more than 2 weeks’ rest following its fifth consecutive all-Filipino title win.

The Beermen will bring in Charles Rhodes when they take on Prince Ibeh and the NorthPort Batang Pier at 7 p.m. at the Araneta Coliseum.

Coach Leo Austria is hoping to start their bid to reclaim the Commissioner’s Cup title with a big win a year after they finished second to Barangay Ginebra.

But they are facing a highly confident Batang Pier squad who had a strong start this conference behind Ibeh, Sean Anthony, Stanley Pringle, Moala Tautuaa and Robert Bolick.

In the 4:30 p.m. curtain raiser, the all-Filipino second placer Magnolia will battle a well-rested Alaska side, who will welcome back Vic Manuel.

Manuel is making his season debut after dealing with a variety of injuries.

But Aces coach Alex Compton is anticipating a tough match against the Hotshots despite Magnolia’s tough title loss to San Miguel in the Philippine Cup.

"We believe that they will be playing at a high level from the very start and we need to expect their best," said Compton.
