Several former PBA stars looking to make it as city councilors are heading toward wins, partial and unofficial poll results showed on Tuesday.
Former national team player Dondon Hontiveros leads the contest in the second district of Cebu City with 158,129 votes. His closest competitor is Dave Tumulak (153,226 votes).
This is the first foray into politics by Hontiveros, known as a sharpshooter playing mainly for San Miguel Beer.
Multi-titled UAAP coach Franz Pumaren is the front-runner in the third district of Quezon City.
Pumaren, who steered La Salle to 5 UAAP titles, got 66,187 votes, followed by Kate Coseteng (63,125). He currently coaches Adamson.
Former PBA MVP Ato Agustin is also winning in the lone district of San Fernando City in Pampanga. The current San Miguel assistant coach got 61,920 votes behind leaders Tiger Lagman and Harvey Quiwa.
Former Purefoods player Paul Artadi ranked second in the first district of San Juan city, with 15,437 votes behind front-runner Vincent Pacheco (17,061).
Meanwhile, 16-year PBA veteran Don Allado lags in the second district of San Juan, placing 10th.
Jana Ejercito is in first place.
