MANILA -- Blackwater team owner Dioceldo Sy feels the time is right to push for a 2-conference format in the PBA.
Aside from the need to adjust with FIBA's new format, the league will also have to consider a 2-conference schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic that forced PBA to suspend games.
“I’m all for it (two conferences). I’m a long proponent of two conferences even before this coronavirus outbreak,” Sy told website Spin.ph.
The PBA is already familiar with the format that has been in use during Noli Eala's tenure as PBA commissioner in the 2000s.
Sy said the 2-conference set-up is more practical.
“I think we can do away with two conferences with an import. Just an All-Filipino and one conference with import [na] 6-foot-9 and above. Nagawa naman na ng liga ito before, so I don’t see any reason why we can’t do it now,” he said.
Sy added that a 2-conference format will also protect players from injuries.
“Makakapahinga rin ang mga players, hindi rin 'yung bugbog talaga,” he said.
