Reigning ONE Heavyweight World Champion Brandon "The Truth" Vera is one of just many professional athletes who have found themselves under home quarantine during this ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Instead of being in camp preparing for what should be a world title defense in Manila in May 29th, Vera is in Guam with his pregnant wife Jessica, living the farm life and getting ready to become a father.
Truth be told, Vera's ONE Heavyweight World Championship defense agaisnt Canada's Arjan "Singh" Bhullar isn't the only endeavor in Vera's life that might get delayed.
Apart from being one of the biggest mixed martial arts stars in the Philippines, the 42-year old is also slowly making his name as an action star.
Following his breakout performance on Erik Matti's Buybust alongside Pinoy stars like Victor Neri and Anne Curtis, Vera has been offered even more movie roles, including an upcoming action flick co-starring model MJ Lastimosa.
“Things are going great in the entertainment world…well, I should have said ‘were going great’, but everything’s on pause right now with the COVID-19 pandemic,” Vera shared through ONE Championship. “We were in the middle of a new action film co-starring MJ Lastimosa, but we have postponed the rest of the film until the COVID-19 virus is under control and the environment is safe for all of the crew to resume working and creating.”
Vera revealed that they were targeting a late-2020 premier for the movie, but with the current situation, its likely that it gets pushed back. Still, "The Truth" is inviting people to watch out for things to come.
“We were hoping to have the movie out by the end of the year, but the COVID-19 pandemic has changed everyone’s plans, but please stay tuned with my upcoming films, as well as my upcoming title-defense,” Vera shared.
While we may not get to see Vera on the big screen until next year, he's still hoping to pop up on the television screens through his fights, and through the recently-announced The Apprentice: ONE Championship Edition, wherein contestants from all over the globe compete for a chance to work directly under ONE Championship CEO and Chairman Chatri Sityodtong in their global headquarters in Singapore.
Vera, one of the biggest stars on the ONE roster, is looking at making a cameo appearance on the reality show.
“No doubt, I will be watching it and I will be recording every episode. I also hope to make a cameo guest appearance on it one day, but I don’t need the pressure of the corporate world,” Vera said. "Billions of fans all over the world watching me on the nights that we perform inside the Circle is enough pressure for me now.”
As the owner and founder of the highly-successful Alliance MMA Gym in the US (and soon here in the Philippines), Vera is also a businessman himself, and says that he's learned quite a few stuff from getting to watch Chatri do his thing on a regular basis.
“From seeing Chatri up close and watching how he does business, I have learned that you need to take care of everyone! Money is not the key, happiness is the goal. You have to be true about what makes you happy in your heart and you have to do what you love.”
The Apprentice: ONE Championship Edition is expected to premier in late-2020.
