(UPDATE) Magnolia’s playoffs bid got a major boost after the Hotshots claimed a 97-87 win over Blackwater on Friday in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
Ian Sanggalang paved the way for the Hotshots’ fifth victory in 10 games with 16 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists.
Magnolia, which now holds solo sixth in the standings, also got double digit outputs from Rome dela Rosa, Paul Lee, Rodney Brondial, Rafi Reavis and Mark Barroca.
The win, a follow up of Magnolia’s 103-90 drubbing of NorthPort, has assured the Hotshots at least a playoff for the eighth and last quarterfinals berth.
The also-ran Blackwater side tried to foil Magnolia, but couldn’t stop themselves from falling to a 2-9 record.
The Hotshots are now hoping to stay in the top 6 and avoid a quarterfinals joust with the top two teams, who will enjoy twice-to-beat bonuses.
