(UPDATED) Defending champion San Miguel Alab Pilipinas torched Mono Vampire Basketball Club, 78-59, to remain on top of the heap in the ASEAN Basketball League at Stadium 29, Nonthaburi, Thailand Saturday.
It was a rematch of their finals last season, but this time both team had different rosters.
Without Sam DeGuara, who moved to Hong Kong Eastern, the Mono Vampire were vulnerable against Alab which now has the likes of PJ Ramos, Caelan Tiongson, and Evan Alvano.
But it was Alab vet Renaldo Balkman who led the way for San Miguel, burying 31 points to go with his 6 rebounds, 4 steals, and 2 assists.
Ramos was also dominant with his double-double effort of 16 points, 19 rebounds, and 7 assists. Ray Parks added 9 markers, 6 boards, 5 assists, and 2 steals.
Mono Vampire has Romeo Travis, but the former Magnolia import was sidelined with injury.
With the win, Alab pocketed its 16th victory in 19 games. Mono Vampire, which fought Alab during the finals last season, fell to 5-14.
