Barangay Ginebra head coach Tim Cone spent part of the long PBA off-season by meeting up with his Miami Heat counterpart, Erik Spoelstra on Monday.
The two have had a tight relationship for years now.
In 2012, during a visit to Manila, Spoelstra acknowledged being friends with Cone.
In 2014, a photo showed Cone and Spoelstra courtside for an NBA Summer League game.
After winning the 2017 PBA Governors' Cup, Cone said he would brag to Spoelstra that he had coached in front of a crowd of more than 50,000 people.
In a recent interview, Cone referenced Spoelstra when Cone described long-time Ginebra reinforcement Justin Brownlee as “an NBA-caliber guy.”
“I don’t think there’s any doubt and I’m not going to tell Erik Spoelstra that because Erik might scout him and steal him. Keep quiet on that, don’t want anybody coming over from the NBA and taking him away,” Cone said.
