MANILA, Philippines -- Magnolia guard Paul Lee missed the second half of the Hotshots' game against TNT KaTropa on Sunday after aggravating an injury to his right thumb.
Lee revealed after the game that he had jammed the finger during the Hotshots' practice on Saturday, and hurt it further when his hand was slapped at some point in the first half.
He exited the game with 5:46 left in the second quarter, and did not return. The KaTropa went on to win, 80-75, in overtime to give Magnolia a losing start in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup.
"Na-jam na siya kahapon then kanina napalo, so ayun, parang na-trigger lang. Mas masakit lang talaga ngayon. Wala tayong magagawa, sabi ipahinga lang din talaga," Lee said.
"Buti nothing serious naman, wala namang bali or what. Sprain lang siya," he added.
Lee is hopeful that he can return to action in a week's time. He plans on showing up to Gilas Pilipinas practice on Monday as well.
"Ang talo lang dito is 'pag natamaan lang ulit, babalik talaga sa ano, sa dati, so hopefully 'yun nga huwag lang matamaan talaga," said Lee.
The veteran guard was 0-of-4 from the field in 13 minutes of action, and could only watch as the Hotshots failed to hold on to a two-point lead with 10 seconds left in regulation.
"Siyempre, medyo malungkot kasi hindi ako nakatulong sa team," he said. "It happens talaga sa game. Part talaga 'yun. So hintayin ko na lang, pagalingin ko na lang para makabawi."
