MANILA, Philippines – Manny V. Pangilinan commended Hidilyn Diaz after the Filipina weightlifter won three gold medals in the Weightlifting World Cup in Rome last Tuesday.

Diaz topped the snatch (93 kilograms), clean and jerk (119 kg), and overall lift (212 kg) in the women's 55-kilogram division.

"Congratulations to Hidilyn Diaz and Team HD for winning another high-level international tournament," said Pangilinan, the chairman of the MVP Sports Foundation, in a statement to ABS-CBN News.

"With each victory, we see her grow both in confidence in herself and performance," he added. "She is paving her way towards, what we all hope to be, a historic Tokyo 2020 Olympics."

Diaz's victory in Rome had kept her on track to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics, where she is looking to win the Philippines' first gold medal.

Diaz won silver in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
