MANILA, Philippines – Filipina teenager Alex Eala kicked off her campaign in the Australian Open juniors tournament with a 6-0, 4-6, 6-2 triumph over Israel's Shavit Kimchi, Sunday.
The 14-year-old Eala, seeded fourth in the tournament, took down her 18-year-old foe to progress to the second round.
Eala will play the winner of the match between Australia's Mia Repac and France's Julie Belgraver.
The teenager is currently ranked ninth in the ITF Junior World Rankings.
