Head coach Tim Cone has made no secret of Barangay Ginebra's intention to win the 2020 PBA Philippine Cup championship.
Cone's counterpart at San Miguel Beer, Leo Austria, welcomed the challenge.
"Any coach in the PBA naman talagang target ang team namin dahil naka-five-peat na kami (in the Philippine Cup)," Austria said in a story posted on the PBA website.
"Kaya iyon talaga goal ng bawat coach.
"What more si coach Tim? Dahil iyung team naman niya talaga namang contender. Any conference contender iyon."
Ginebra is in high spirits after winning the 2019 Governors' Cup title, prompting Cone to look forward to the all-Filipino conference.
"We are certainly going to go for it," said Cone, the league’s winningest coach.
"We feel like we have the tools. We are going to have a substantial break so we will be able to kinda recharge our batteries and get keyed up for the all-Filipino," he added, referring to Stanley Pringle, Japeth Aguilar and Greg Slaughter.
Austria said he hopes his Beermen respond positively to Cone's dare.
"I hope ma-realize din namin kung ano importance nito para sa amin. Five-peat mahirap ng mapantayan iyan, lalong-lalo na six-peat," he said.
"After ng nangyari mas motivated pa mga players," said Austria. "Alam nila na we have to do our best. Alam na nila what's at stake."
