MANILA, Philippines – Another year of intense volleyball action tips off when the Philippine Superliga (PSL) opens its new season this month.

The PSL will start 2019 with a bang, as it stages a Fans' Day along with out-of-town activities such as exhibition matches and volleyball clinics from Jan. 19 to 30.

Games begin on Feb. 9, when the PSL opens the Grand Prix. Each of the 8t competing teams will feature 2 foreign players to bolster their quest for the title.

The league will take a break to give way to the country's participation in the Asian Women's Club Championship in China from April 20-28, before holding the Beach Volleyball Challenge Cup on May 23-26 to wrap up the first half of the year.

"This calendar of events reflects our commitment of coming up with high-level women's volleyball action," said PSL chairman Philip Ella Juico.

The All-Filipino Conference will run from June 15 to Aug. 24.

The 3rd Asian Women's Under-23 Volleyball Championship will then be held on July 13 to 21 in Vietnam. Another international tournament, the 20th Asian Senior Women's Volleyball Championship, will take place in South Korea on Aug. 31 to Sept. 8.

The PSL then returns with the Invitational Conference from Oct. 5 to Nov. 16. This tournament will feature not just the 8 competing teams, but also regional, collegiate, and other club teams in the country.

The league takes another break from Nov. 30 to Dec. 10, this time to give way to the country's hosting of the 30th Asian Games.

Another beach volleyball event will be held in December to formally close out the season.

"I believe our 2019 season will be as action-packed and intense as the previous years," said Juico.

"We're looking forward to another successful season with the help of the players, clubs, sponsors, our broadcast partner, the national federation and, of course, the fans," he added.
