SAUDI ARABIA - Several Filipino pilgrims attending the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca lost around P700,000 after their hotel rooms were ransacked by unidentified burglars.

Assistance to Nationals Unit Officer at the Philippine Embassy Abdulhalim Langco said the value of stolen items reached 50,000 Saudi Riyal (SAR).

The Philippine delegation filed a complaint at the Ajyad Police Station. They were assisted by the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh, together with Hajj Attaché Ahmad M. Balindong and National Commission on Muslim Filipinos officials.

The hotel management settled the case amicably and paid instead the amount of stolen items in exchange for withdrawing the complaint, Langco said. - Maxxy Santiago, Charles Tabbu & Iya Estrada, ABS-CBN Middle East News Bureau
