TORONTO - Amid the Filipino Heritage Month celebrations in Toronto, the community mourned the loss of its Philippine Consul General Rosalita Prospero, who served her kababayans for the past 4 years.

Members of the Filipino community gathered at St. Ansgar Lutheran church to celebrate the life of Prospero who passed away on May 28.

ConGen Rose, as she’s fondly known, is remembered for her unwavering public service, even up to her final days.

"Despite her illness, she never complained. She spoke about the coming activities in the service of the Filipino community such as the overseas voting and the national heritage month," Philippine ambassador to Canada Petronila Garcia said.

In one of the Filipino heritage month events that ConGen Rose was supposed to attend, friends talked about her dedication to the community and love for music.

"Ang paborito ni ConGen na kanta is nakakataba ng puso dahil ako ang gumawa," musical director and composer Mon Torralba said.

To the Filipino community, ConGen Rose will always be remembered as a quiet leader who leads by example. With all the countries she’s served, her dear friends would love to think she has just gone on a much longer foreign assignment.
