MANILA—The Department of Foreign Affairs on Saturday urged Filipinos in Libya to relocate amid "intense fighting" in its capital city, Tripoli.

"There is intense fighting raging in the frontlines right now. We have been hearing the bombardment from @PhinLibya since last night. We again call on our kababayan near where the fighting is taking place to relocate now," Elmer Cato, the country's diplomatic representative to Libya, said in a tweet.

The DFA earlier raised Alert Level 4 in Libya, which calls for a mandatory evacuation of Filipinos.

However, only 55 out of some 1,000 Filipinos have been evacuated since fighting broke out between the eastern Libyan National Army and government forces on April 4.

The agency has several times urged Filipinos in the besieged capital to return home, but they are hesitant to leave because of salary concerns.
