MANILA - A Filipina household worker who was maltreated in Saudi Arabia returned to the Philippines Tuesday night.
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Cristina Arado was rescued by the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah.
Arado was forced to work in several households while her passport and cellphone were confiscated.
She and her mother were reunited at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
About 10 million Filipinos work abroad and the money they remit back serves as a pillar of the economy. Majority of them work as unskilled laborers and are prone to abuse.
