MANILA - The number of Filipinos abroad infected with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has risen to 335 after 55 new cases were reported, the Department of Foreign Affairs said on Sunday.
According to the DFA, a total of 335 Filipinos in the Asia Pacific region, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Americas have contracted the disease as of March 29.
Of this number, 220 are under treatment, while 111 others recovered or were discharged.
Four succumbed to the disease.
The DFA said there are around 30 countries with Filipino COVID-19 cases.
It also added that the 19.64 percent increase in the confirmed cases since Saturday was due to the number of new cases reported in the Asia Pacific region and in Europe.
As of March 28, the fast spreading pathogen has infected more than 570,000 worldwide, with over 26,000 deaths, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
Countries around the globe have imposed strict travel measures to arrest contamination of COVID-19, which has sent governments and their citizens reeling due to its rapid spread.
