Traslacion 2017: The procession of the Black Nazarene

More than 12 million participants. Over a million devotees. Around 2,000 hurt with various injuries, with 5,700 policemen guarding its security. The statue of the Black Nazarene is back in its home in Quiapo Church 22 hours later, after 6.9 kilometer procession.

One of the biggest religious events in Asia, the annual Traslacion commemorating the first procession when the Black Nazarene was transferred from Intramuros to the Basilica Minor of the Black Nazarene in Quiapo in Manila is a sight to behold.

For almost a whole day, from light to dark, the object of touching the venerated image of a dark-skinned Jesus Christ captivated the crowd, television audiences and countless cameras. Here are a few of the highlights of the procession in photographs.
