Rebuilding Marawi: Chinese firms at 'ground zero'

A consortium of Chinese and Filipino companies has been selected to rebuild "ground zero" or the most affected areas of war-torn Marawi City.

But critics have questioned the inclusion of two Chinese firms--China State Construction Engineering Corporation and China Geo-Engineering Corporation--in the consortium after it was found that they were once blacklisted by the World Bank for allegedly colluding with Philippine companies to rig projects the bank partly financed.

Malacañang, a day after the first-year commemoration of the start of the siege, asked the public to give the two Chinese firms another chance to prove their capabilities in the rehabilitation of “ground zero” in war-torn Marawi City.
