Now Showing: The Matrix

A broadsheet recently broke a story about Presidential spokesperson Sal Panelo's "The Matrix," which links news organizations such as Rappler, Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism, and VERA Files, among others, to an alleged plot to oust President Duterte.

The organizations and journalists linked to the plot have denied any involvement in any destabilization move against the administration.

Rappler's Maria Ressa described the presidential "matrix" as "another Palace ploy to harass journalists."  VERA Files' Ellen Tordesillas found the story "hilarious," and the PCIJ likewise belied it and pointed out factual mistakes in the allegations.

Looks like "The Matrix" is really part of a series of not-so-well-thought-out intelligence reports meant to discredit people who are just doing their job either as part of the democratic opposition or independent journalists.

Not too long ago, Malacanang and security authorities were singing a similar tune. There was supposedly an ouster plot on September 21 by the political opposition, the communists, and Senator Antonio Trillanes' Magdalo group.

The following month, military officials claimed there was a Red October plan against the administration, followed by another one in December.

The Matrix, Red October, what's next? Will there be an Avengers: Endgame?
