MANILA - The head of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on Monday denied asking Vice President Leni Robredo to stay with the inter-agency committee against illegal drugs (ICAD).

PDEA chief Director Gen. Aaron Aquino issued the statement following Robredo's claim over the weekend.

“Hindi ko po sinabi na huwag niya kaming iwan. It was the Vice President who said that she will stay as long as the President wants her to retain her post as ICAD co-chairman. Maybe the VP only got mixed up by the turn of events,” he said.

Robredo and Aquino shared the ICAD leadership for nearly 3 weeks before President Rodrigo Duterte fired Robredo earlier this month for allegedly using the post for “grandstanding.”

The Vice President, in her weekly radio show, had also hit Aquino's inconsistent remarks to her and the media.

"Medyo natatawa ako na disappointed. Disappointed ako kasi PMA-er itong si Director General Aquino. Inaasahan mo kapag PMA-er, officer and gentleman. Pero ilang beses nang ang sinasabi sa harap ko, iba ang sinasabi sa media," she said.

Aquino said he "accorded all the respect and courtesy" to Robredo as his co-chair, adding that he asked all members of the ICAD to address the Vice President's urgent concerns and recommendations.

The Vice President, however, was "entitled to her opinion," Aquino said.

“Pero siya pa lang ang nagsabi noon sa buong buhay ko,” he said.
