ZAMBOANGA CITY – Soldiers from Task Force Zamboanga are spreading early Christmas cheer after they skipped exchanging gifts and instead donated their subsistence allowance to wards at the Home for the Elderly in Barangay Mampang.

The facility serves as a home to indigent and abandoned elderly Filipino men and women.

The soldiers brought individual gift packs and modest lunch to the residents. They also entertained the residents with a dance number.

Task Force Zamboanga Commander Col. John Divinagracia said the event was a great experience for both soldiers and the care home’s residents this Christmas season.

The activity also served as a reminder for them to take good care of their families as well, Divinagracia added.

Psychometrician Emmanuelle Bantay of the Home for Elderly said that they are doing everything to trace the families of their residents.

"It boosts their morale kapag may bumibisita sa kanila. It reminds them na may nakakaalala sa kanila kahit na nasa ganitong facility sila and sometimes it fills the gap of needing someone," she added.
