MANILA - Three senatorial aspirants on Thursday said they will work to repeal the tax reform law, raise salary of judges and prosecutors, and fight electoral fraud if they win seats in the upper chamber.
Asked what he will do first once elected as senator, former Bayan Muna Party-list Rep. Neri Colmenares said he will push for the removal of value added tax (VAT) on electricity, water and oil.
"TRAIN repeal, kasama sana yung pagtanggal ng VAT sa kuryente, tubig, langis kasi inflationary yan," Colmenares told radio DZMM's senatorial candidates' interview "Ikaw Na Ba."
(TRAIN repeal, including the removal of VAT on electricity, water, and oil because it's inflationary.)
He added that he will also push for the additional pension for senior citizens, end of contractualization, and increase of minimum wage.
Human rights lawyer Jose Manuel "Chel" Diokno, meanwhile, said he will call for the salary increase of judges and prosecutors.
(We should increase the budget of our judiciary and raise the salary and benefits of our judges and prosecutors in order to get good lawyers. Because that is the problem that causes slow proceedings of cases.)
Prof. Antonio Valdes said he will focus on the "immoral and onerous" Electric Power Industry Reform Act (EPIRA), fight election fraud, and bring justice to Dengvaxia victims.
(We also have electoral fraud. We think Smartmatic is a foreign corporation and we should not let foreign corporations choose our leadership.)
(Third is Dengvaxia. The people need to know who is accountable for Dengvaxia and should be penalized.)
