MANILA - Agusan del Norte 2nd District Rep. Erlpe John Amante on Wednesday called for a House probe into the alleged illegal raid on the property of his allies, Jabonga Mayor Jasmin Monton and Vice Mayor Glicerio Monton Jr.
Amante, who made the call in a privilege speech at the plenary session Wednesday, said the incident was a raid that was far from legal as it had signs of irregularity and lacked respect for rules in the conduct of search operations.
He said a team of 15 to 20 policemen in full battle gear knocked down the door of the house and ordered those they found to drop to the floor.
Amante said the vice mayor who had been awakened by the noise, supposedly saw them from the stairs and secured his wife. They complied when the police found them and ordered them to drop on their knees. No items were seized or discovered at this time.
He claimed that 2 hours later, a second raiding team arrived and was armed with a search warrant. This team then discovered sachets of shabu and a hand grenade.
Amante claimed that the first team planted the evidence.
Amante said he wants the matter to be investigated by the House Committee on Good Government, and for the police and local interior department to conduct separate investigations.
